Lake Maroon is probably one of the best Jetski lakes in Queensland. The Lake is deep and clear, very safe and not crowded. Almost all of the dam’s surface area is ski-able and free from obstructions. The area used by jetskiers is quite separate to the area used by fishermen, so less there is conflict of use. Due to the surrounding mountains the dam is not usually affected by wind, deep enough that is doesn't chop up easily and can be jetskied all day.
We have our own private access to the lake were you can launch a Jetski in a good deep launching area. You can set up a day shelter right beside the waters edge. It is very popular with water ski & jetskiing groups. There are some weeds around the outside of the dam at certain times (seasonal), but our regular jetskiers tell us that they manage to operate the jetski without clogging the intake by using the cleared path for about 30 metres into the deeper water.
Note that the boat launch area is not a concrete boat ramp and in wet weather we reserve the right to close the area if heavy rain makes the grass boggy. This area is for Lake Maroon Holiday Park guests only, so you won’t be crowded out along the foreshore.
No special permits required to use the Lake, and Jet Skis are permitted. However vessels must be registered and the driver appropriately licensed. The direction of travel is anti-clockwise direction and skiing is prohibited within 30 metres of anchored vessels, swimmers and boat ramps. There are also a series of buoys about 50 metres from the dam wall that indicate a safety ‘No Go Zone’.
