Maroon Dam is one of South East Queensland's best freshwater fly and surface fishing destinations, with the best times being early morning and late afternoon.
During the middle of the day, deeper diving lures, soft plastics and lipless crank baits are effective, so too is live bait such as shrimp, freshwater yabbies and worms.
Focus areas are the structured regions of the dam, such as the dead timber in the water and rocky point areas.

Maroon Dam has a surface area of 350 hectares, so it’s not an overly large dam.
Petrol and Electric Motors
Petrol outboard motors are permitted on the Scenic Rim's Maroon Dam.
Electric motors will also easily allow you to cover the key fishing areas of the dam from Lake Maroon Holiday Park.
Exclusive Launching Area
Lake Maroon Holiday Park provides an exclusive launching area onto the dam for all guests.
Freshwater Fishing Bait
Bait and lures can be purchased from the office.
Fishing Permits
Maroon Dam comes under the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme. You can purchase your permit online at www.smartservice.qld.gov.au and the cost is $7.45 per week. Yearly permits are also available.
